    What is "silver bullet”?

Yesterday White House National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice testified in public before the commission investigating the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

There is such a sentence in the report of the testimony:

“ She told the panel there was no "silver bullet," or simple solution, that could have prevented the attacks. “

What is "silver bullet” and what is the meaning of it?

    Yumin

A simple remedy for a difficult or intractable problem: “There is no single silver bullet or panacea that will solve all the problems of Bay Area schools” (San Francisco Chronicle, May 18, 1995).

ETYMOLOGY: From the belief that werewolves could be killed with silver bullets.

I'm not a teacher, so please consider any advice I give in that context.
