    i think "the tv was invented" is correct (singluar) but for car, i think cars were invented" is correct. do i need 'the' can someone help me. i want to use the phrase ~invented by . should the preceding be plural or singular??

    tv was invented
    tvs were invented

    chocolate bars were invented
    chocolate bar was invented

    cars were invented
    the car was invented

    I would say:

    "TV was invented ..."
    "Chocolate bar was invented ..."
    "Car was invented ..."
