    Smile subjunctive mood ????

"If I had shoes that good when I was young I would have been a much better player."

Based on what I have learned, I think the sentence is wrong; "had had shoes" should be in the if-clause. That's the usage that I've learned about the subjunctive mood.

However, that sentence was in the book for ESL learners, which is really popular.

Am I right ? Or should I study the subjuctive mode again?
