    damage

    there was a small fire at my house, and it caused damage to some items: stove, pan.etc

    can i say:

    insurance will pay for my damages(damaged items)
    insurance will pay for my fire damage

    The second would be correct.

    "Damages" is a legal term for a sum of money paid in compensation for loss or injury as a result of attack or criminal activity.
