    how many etc.

    Dear teachers,
I have three questions to ask:

    No.1
I think this is the best gongfu film that has ever been made, ________?
    a. don't you b. isn't it
According to the book both are correct. I can understand 'b' is correct. But I can't understand 'a'. Why 'you'?

    No.2
Many people are not aware of _____ new technologies are already being used in the home.
    a. how many b. how much
I think obviously the key is 'a'. But the key is 'b'. Does it mean I can't use 'many ' to modify 'techonologies'?

    No.3
It's no use ___ about it now.
    a. to complain b. complaining
The key is 'b'. No problem. But in my dictionary there are examples of 'It's no use to do something'. Does it mean language has changed?

Looking forward to hearing from you.
    Thank you in advance.

    Re: how many etc.

    Hi Jiang
    .
    1. Using "don't you" means "don't you think so, too?"
    .
    2. The key is wrong:
    - how many new technologies
    - how much new technology
    .
    3. Using the -ing form of a verb after "it's no use" is by far the most common usage.
Take a look at the usage in this BNC search:
    BNC: It is no use

    Re: how many etc.

Philly, what if the "much" was being used to modify the "use" and not the "technologies"? I agree that it was hardly my first instinct, but I do think it can work that way. What do you think?

Good point, Barb. I hadn't thought of that.
