    Which is better?

    The 1st service shelf (counted from the bottom up) is the master shelf, and the shelf above that is the slave shelf.

    Original:
    Socket on the PRTG board in slot 21 of the first service shelf (counted from the bottom up)
    Suggested:

    1.Socket on the PRTG board in slot 21 of the first service shelf (counted upwards from the bottom of the cabinet)
    or
    2. Socket on the PRTG board in slot 21 of the first service shelf (counted from the bottom up)

    I would start the first with"Counting from the bottom" :

    1. Counting from the bottom, the first service shelf is the master shelf, and the shelf above that is the slave shelf.

    The second I would phrase :

    1.the socket on the PRTG board in slot 21 of the first service shelf (counting from the bottom of the cabinet)

    If you say "from the bottom", the only way to go is up, so you do not need to include it.
