I have had an argument with friends about the correct way to describe travel to London. As it is our capital city, I believe that all travel is 'up to London'. My friends believe that, as we live in the north of England and that London is below us on the map, then we go 'down to London'. Who is right?
Technically you go "up to London", but in this day and age most people go down to London or just go to London.
