    varied heritage, worthy of it

I love my country and I am proud of its rich and varied heritage. I shall always strive to be worthy of it.

I know the meaning of (varied and heritage) separately. But I can't understand that in this sentence.

Also, I can't understand what is (worthy of it).

    Could you explain please?
