    even

    Is there a difference of meaning between these two sentences and, also, are both grammatically correct?

    1. the book gained him even the favour of the most severe critics.......;
    2. the book gained him the favour of even the most severe critics....

    Re: even

    Both are fine. The second one is more common. The first one tells us he gained favor as well as something else from the most severe critics.

    1. the book gained him even the favour of the most severe critics.......;

    2. the book gained him the favour of even the most severe critics....
