    grammar question

    can you tell me please in this following sentences:the police charged him with murder.
    we congratulated tom on his medal
    i shall exempt them fron certain duties
    what are the functions of the underlined prepositional phrases

    1) we congratulated tom on his medal
    2) I shall exempt them fron certain duties


    These are not prepositional phrases. They are "Phrasal verbs" + nouns:
    1) "charge with" (= phrasal verb) + murder (= Noun/Direct object)
    "His medal" and "certain duties" are noun phrases functioning as Ods.

    Have you got the idea?
