When we say that someone has their head up their as*, we are saying they are completely clueless, they don't know what's going on or what the real facts are.
If you're trying to see something from someone's point of view, it means that we're trying to understand their reasoning or their way of thinking.
So ' i tried to see things from your point of view, but couldn't get my head that far up my ass' means that you're trying to understand that person's reasoning, but because their reasoning makes no sense whatsoever, it is impossible.
