    violence cut short his life

    to cut short one's life
Does the phrase above simply mean to die or does it mean to shorten one's life?
Is short an adverb in this sentence?
    Thank you

Re: violence cut short his life

To cut one's life short usually indicates that the person died.

"The previously vibrant 12-year-old had his life cut short by cancer."
"Sadly, the innocent bystander had his life cut short in a drive-by shooting thanks to gang violence."

    I'll give you the context.
Violence cut short his life and he was murdered in... on.....
The position of the adverb seems to be very strange.

Re: violence cut short his life

It means that he died at an unexpectedly young age and without fulfilling his potential.

    Thank you.
But isn't the position of the adverb odd?
    May it be a mistake?

In and on head adverbial phrases, true, but what are their objects? What's the rest of the sentence?

I don't remember the exact words. However it was like this:
Violence cut short his life and he was murdered in ...(place where he was murdered) on ...(date when he was murdered).

I'm afraid I didn't make myself understood. I meant that in the sentence:
Violence cut short his life and he was murdered in ...(place where he was murdered) on ...(date when he was murdered)
the word short (I'm not sure it is an adverb here , maybe I'm wrong) seems pretty strange to me.
Is it a particular form to make the text more refined or somthing like that? May it be a mistake?

Re: violence cut short his life

The phrase "cut short his life" is one that is easily enough understood by an NES. It means that his life ended prematurely. It is understood that the individual died relatively young. It could have been by disease or by violence. The phrase "violence cut short his life" makes it explicit how he died (by violence). A better way to put it would be:
Violence cut short his life. He was murdered in Chicago, Illinois on January 13, 2007.
