    Re: verbs

Sometimes an action verb or a linking verb needs the help of one ore more other verbs. This other verb is called an auxiliary verb or helping verb. The verb that it helps is called the main verb. Together, a main verb and an auxiliary verb make up a verb phrase.

I have a book. (main verb)
I have lost my book. (aux. verb)
I shouldn't have lost my book. (verb phrase)
