Traffic helper, traffic safety helper, or...?

What is the proper way to call those persons, usually seniors, who help kids cross the street. I would look up the word in my dictionary, but I don't know how to call them in my native language (Croatian) either.

We call them "School Crossing Patrol Officers" or, colloquially, lollipop ladies and men.

Thanks. Lollipop man or lady is funny

I think that is the American term.

Yes, in AmE they're "crossing guards."
