    ocean or the ocean

The word "ocean" needs an article like "an" or "the"?
For exmaple, between fully exposed to ocean and fully exposed to the ocean ,
which one is correct? Both are right?

    I'm curious.
    Thank you in advance.

You can be exposed to sunlight (not countable), but you can't be exposed to ocean (countable).

    I appreciate your help.
    Ocean is a countable noun.
