The Infinitive is the first form of the verb: to go, to open, to speak, to stay.
They are used with or without "to".
e.g. I want to know what "the Infinitive" is.
    Can you help me?
The underlined words are infinitives. I hope I helped you.

Thank you very much! You did help me, thanks!!!

I really don't know much of the terms used in English.
How about the other forms of the verb, do we have a name for that, too?

    Hi!
The verb has four forms:1.The infinitive 2. The past Indefinite 3.The Past Participle 4. the Present Participle.
    Let's take the verb "go"
    1.to go 2. went 3. gone 4. going

The first form helps to form The Present Simple and The Future Simple Tenses. e.g. I go to work every morning. I will go to work soon.
The secong form helps to form only The Past Simple Tense. e.g. I went to work last work.
The third form helps to form perfect tenses and the passive voice. e.g. He has just gone to work. They had gone to work when I phoned them.
The fourth form helps to form continuous tenses. e.g. I'm going to work now. You were going to work when I saw you. I will be going to work at 9 oc'lock a.m. tomorrow.
I think you know English better now. Cheers!

Yes!!! I thought it wouldn't be necessary at first to learn the rules of English... but as I read more in this forum, I think I was wrong.

There's a lot more to learn really, thanks to you!!!
