    Cool backlift

    Hi,

    In the following passage:

Atlantis commander Rick Sturckow will move the shuttle until it is 600 feet below the station and then make the shuttle turn a backflip in just nine minutes. (CNN)

    What does backlift mean?

    Re: backlift

A backflip (you typed backlift but I assume that is a typo) is a maneuver performed by gymnasts or acrobats. The best way I can describe it is, they leap into the air while flipping their bodies over backwards. Trained dolphins do backflips in their shows, and synchronized swimmers, and now I suppose submarines as well. :)

Yes, it was a typo! Sorry. Thank you.
