    Re: proper noun help

It's a noun in form, yes, but an adjective in function. It describes the noun mathematician.

Every word has a form, what is looks like, and a function, what it does in the sentence. English is a proper noun, but use it to modify another noun, and it becomes an adjective in function; e.g., an English newspaper.

    Does that help?
