    What does 'step' means in the sentence:

    'The step begins a process in which Smith's assets will be identified and the court will determine how they should be distributed.'

    If you know the members of Ana Nicole Smith's family, it will be much easy.

    Here "step" means 'action' or 'proceeding'.

    What does step mean....?
    If you know....................it will be much easier.
