    Re: essay

    Since you only have 45 minutes at your disposal, there isn't much time left to brainstorm or generate ideas about the topic. You need to be in a pretty good shape! Be focused, start with an attention grabber, do not explain too much, use a formal language, be clear.

    Express coordinate ideas by using linking words or transitional phrases. Format the esay into clear-cut paragraphs (five paragraphs, usually).

    Due to the time limit and the extent of your essay (2-300 words), avoid padding and narrow the number of supporting details to a reasonable size.

    Good Luck!!

    Re: essay

    An introductory paragraph has to be catchy and clear enough. It includes:

    1. A motivator. It is the hook sentence that attracts the reader and prepares soil for a thesis statement. (include some background info, statistics, smth funny and interesting... Make the reader think: wow, this is really interesting!!)

    2. The thesis – the very essence, the heart of your 5 paragraph essay. It is a sentence that states your main idea or belief, which you are to prove and support when writing your essays;

    3. The so-called 'blueprint', also known as forecasting. This is a rough plan, quick review of what you are going to talk about.

    Remember: your teacher has many essays to correct, and may easily get bored. Grab his attention and keep it alive up to the end!!

    An essay is like a nice meal. It starts with:

    - an apetizer (1st paragraph),

    - then the main dish (the body of your essay),

    - and ends with the desert (the conclusion)!! (hmmm, yummy!!)

    I need to go eat some icecream...
