Could someone please help to clarify whether or not the example below is correct.
"Sir, ssshh -- there's no talking in the library."
"Oh. I'll be quiet, then."
The comma before "then" -- correct or not?
Also, in this example: ...
"I drank some beer then ate some cake to absorb the alcohol."
...is a comma required before "then"? Is it a case of preference?
In the above examples, the two "then"s have different meaning, also, so is there a strict rule for each?
Oh. In that case, I'll be quiet.
Oh. Then, I'll be quiet.
Oh. I'll be quiet, then.
