    Post Comma before 'then'

Could someone please help to clarify whether or not the example below is correct.

"Sir, ssshh -- there's no talking in the library."
    "Oh. I'll be quiet, then."

The comma before "then" -- correct or not?

    Also, in this example: ...

"I drank some beer then ate some cake to absorb the alcohol."

...is a comma required before "then"? Is it a case of preference?

In the above examples, the two "then"s have different meaning, also, so is there a strict rule for each?

The comma before "then" -- correct or not? Usually, with "then" meaning "as a result/in that case", a comma is used .

    Also, in this example: ...

"I drank some beer then ate some cake to absorb the alcohol."

...is a comma required before "then"? Is it a case of preference? Here you require a comma as there are two sequential actions: drinking beer, eating cake. First one thing, then[next] another thing.

In the above examples, the two "then"s have different meaning, also, so is there a strict rule for each? Apart from then as an indication of time ["I am going to the library to find that book. I will read it then"], a comma should be used in front of it.

    Additionally,

Oh. In that case, I'll be quiet.
    Oh. Then, I'll be quiet.
    Oh. I'll be quiet, then.

    All the best
