    Hippy/Hippie

Is one the American spelling and the other the English spelling?

    Re: Hippy/Hippie

    Hippy is used in Britain
Hippie is used in the US, where "hippy" is a variant (occasionally used).

what about a woman with broad hips - is she a hippy, or a hippie?

    Re: Hippy/Hippie

Seriously, Bianca, I did actually think about this. Here "hippie" and "yippie" are the counterculture types. "Hippy" describes a woman who is a little bottom-heavy, and "yippy" describes a shrill little poodle or Pekinese.

Thanks, Chomat. Now I can't keep still, for goodness' sake! :)

    Sorry Ma'am.
Bottom-heavy! to have a heart of gold and a bottom of lead for Christ's sake !
Even Neil Young wouldn't have thought of this.

No no Chomat, a bottom of lead means you're lazy. "Come on, get the lead out of your *ss!" are words of gentle encouragement to the sluggard :)
