But, you didn't tell me how I can improve my punctuation skills

    Re: pardon

Ex: I am sorry. I haven't caught what you said.
    Very odd.

    Ex: Sorry. I've missed that.
    Now and then...

    Ex: I'm sorry. I didn't catch that/what you said.
    Especially!

    Ex: Sorry. I missed that.
    Nah...

Sorry but I didn't get what you mean by this "Ex-cuse me?".

    Re: pardon

But can you please explain a bit, or give hints how I may know it...
Why is there a dash in "ex-cuse"?

    Try:
    ex-CUSE ME?!
EX, then a brief pause while holding (k)S, anf finaly CAUSE ME?
    .................................................. ....................---------->
    .................................................. ....................Intonation up!

    Does that help?

You have a dash because she wanted to stress that EX and CUSE are a bit separated (my attempt of explanation).

    Re: pardon

Yes, Jason is correct - the hyphen was meant to indicate a very slight pause. Thanks, Jason72!
