    The verb phrase should have + past participle is used to talk about things that happened in the past, and were wrong or unfortunate in our opinion.

    You should have been present at your brother's wedding. (= but you weren't)
    They should have listened to my words. (= but they didn't)
    Bear in mind I'm not a teacher!
