Hello Unreg,
In ordinary British English, both are correct. Most people say "a hotel"; but "an" is acceptable (though less common) before an unaccented syllable that begins with a voiced H.

Hello Unreg,

MrP
a hotel - if I say it as hotel
an hotel - if I say it as otel
{just an avid English learner as you are}
(Interestingly, many people say "an" even though they sound the H, in "hotel" and other words that begin with an H on an unaccented syllable.)
