    line is crossed

A person asks the operator to dial a number for him, but the operator later says that "a line is crossed or temporarily disconnected."

What does it mean that "a line is crossed"?

    Thanks a lot!

    Re: line is crossed

In telephony, it can happen that two calls make use of the same line. This means that one of the calls fails to make its connection. This is known as a "crossed line".
