    to take the micky

Can anyone tell me the origin of to take the micky out of someone. Does it have something to do with the slang name given to Irish people or Roman Catholics?
    Thanks

    Re: to take the micky

    Hello again Chomat,

"Take the Mickey/mick (out of)" is usually derived from the rhyming slang "take the Mickey Bliss", for "take the piss" (which means "to mock").

However, the evidence is inconclusive; as is the identity of "Mickey Bliss"!

    All the best,

    MrP

"It has also been suggested that "mickey" in this context is an ethnic slur for an Irish person, and to "take the mickey" originally meant to taunt the Irish and parody their accents."

Another theory is that it means 'Mickey Finn', a drug given to make someone unconscious. I am afraid we really don't know.
