    Question It is assumed...

    "It is assumed that it is possible that this mechanism [...]"
    It looks a bit clumsy in my eyes, this that-that thing. May I write, then,
    "It is assumed to be possible that this mechanism [...]"

    Does the two sentences carry the same meaning?

    (BTW, the mechanism-clause is very long, if it at all matters.)

    Yes. You can even say "It is assumed possible that..."
