    Wink formality

    She loved him to destruction
Can I use this sentence in a academic writing that is: This construction is formal or not?
(I found it while reading a novel)
    Thanks in advance

    Re: formality

That's funny, I've never heard somebody being loved to destruction. Sounds dangerous. I've heard of 'to distraction', i.e. you love someone so much that it is a distraction from everything else.

    Re: formality

Don't really know if it's formal or informal. If anything I suppose it's pretty formal, yes. It's good English and it makes perfect sense.
