    Question conditional

    Hello,

    I have a question.

    A couple has a problem. The husband tell his wife;

    If we’re gonna get through this all by ourselves…
    we need to get back on solid ground.

    Does he mean if they intend to solve the problem by themselves,
    they need strong solidarity as a couple?

    or

    If they can solve the problem by themselves, their solidarity become
    stronger?

    Thank you,
    Tara

    Re: conditional

    Mm tricky one.

    When someone refers to 'solid ground', they mean that they need some stability. So in order for the couple to solve their problems, by themselves, they need some stability.

    Yes, that's the closest meaning.
