    one-third again as many

Could anyone help me with the following expression in bold?

Competition between UPS and FedEx extends to their uniforms........ UPS drivers deliver one-third again as many packages every day, and they generally make more money and enjoy better benefits.

In the above, does it mean UPS drivers deliver "one-third less packages than FedEx drivers?" If so, how could they make more money than FedEx drivers? What is it that I am misunderstanding?

    Thank you.

    Re: one-third again as many

For every nine packages a FedEx driver delivers a UPS driver delivers twelve.

    Re: one-third again as many

    I see. Thanks.

Then I should have rewritten it like "UPS drivers deliver one-third more packages than FedEx drivers," shouldn't I? I was confused about the "again" in the expression "one-third again as many packages." If it were not for the "again", it would have the same meaning as "one-third less packages than FedEx drivers," wouldn't it?

If you don't have the again in there it means that UPS delivers one third as many packages as FedEx instead of one third more packages than FedEx.

    Does that do it?

    Thanks again.
