    a poor apology

I came across a slang today, saying: This singer does have a big name, but she is only a poor apology for a good singer.
I was told that this slang refers to those people who do not meet up to their reputation. Like this one, with a big name, that singer is supposed to be a very good. But she actually is not as good as her name says.
My question is that there is actually one slang like this? Becasue i couldn't find one when I googled it. If it does exist, it is commonly used? If not, what is the commonly used phrase instead?
Thank you so much for your help!

    Re: a poor apology

' she is a poor apology for a good singer' is a funny/disparaging way of saying 'she makes a poor substitute for a good singer'. I haven't heard the former so often, maybe because it is informal, but the latter, yes.

It exists. I wouldn't call it 'slang' (which, incidentally is not countable - you can't say 'a slang'). It is quite informal (though often used in populist rhetoric: 'Tony Blair was a poor apology for a Socialist' is the sort of thing you might read in a left-wing editorial.
