Hi, which of the two words would be more appropriate in the sentence "She is married to a painter/artist"? I understand the difference in meaning, but is it necessary to specify in this context that the person paints, not draws, pictures?

    Thank you

    Re: painter/artist

An artist is anyone who creates art - from drawing through to large scale constructions or performance.

A painter specifically uses paint to create the artwork.

Which you use must depend on your context.
