    Prepositions "for & of

    How do I use the prepositions " for & of correctly?

    What are the rules to use these prepositions?

    usage of 'for':
    1)used to show a receiver of something.
    She cooked the rice for her son.
    2)on behalf of
    She signed the cheque for her husband.
    3) in exchange for
    She gave me $10000 for my car.
    4)in search of
    She went to Canada for good jobs.
    5)towards
    She sailed for Srilanka last night.
    6)used for
    This house is used for living.
    7)in support of
    Most members were for her and very few against her.
    8)during
    she lived in Canada for two years.

    hi ,
    i don't remember all the rules for using 'of' but it can be used in the following situations.
    1) belonging to
    the keys of this keyboard are working properly.
    2) from some place
    her house is to the south of my school.
    3)about something
    for the first time u spoke of ur problems to me.
    4)possessing some quality
    this girl is of much ability.

    May I suggest you a book called "Understanding Prepositions" by Howard Sargeant(2002 Learners Publishing Pte Ltd) , where you can find everything you want. For copyright resons, I am sorry that I cannot copy them to here.
