    A Grammatical Question

    He dared not show up at the party.

    With reference to the above sentence I would appreciate it if you would kindly let me know whether the sentence is grammatically acceptable or not.

    If it sounds strange, please make me know what should be revised.

    This is grammatically correct, although it sounds perhaps a little old-fashioned. More colloquial would be - He did not dare to show up at the party, or he didn't dare to show up at the party.
