    other/another pen

I have another pen to write.
I have other pen to write.

    Are the both sentences correct?

If correct, what is the difference in the meaning between these sentences?

    Re: other/another pen

I have another pen to write with (using pen in singular/clearly showing a choice)
I have other pens...( we use other for plural most of the time)
I have ...and a pen in the other...(being specific. Using the definite article the)

When we talk about two things, we use one and the other.

I have a bag in one hand and a pen in the other.

I have only two hands. I have a bag in one hand and a pen in another hand. I don't know why this is wrong.

Because, suppose if we have two pens we say :

I am writing on this pen. I have another pen to write with.

    Re: other/another pen

I agree - it is confusing. Generally, since we only have two hands, it is natural to say one or the other.

You may have two pens, but you may also have five pens, so there is a less precise situation. In saying I have another pen, you are indicating that you have further pens than just the one. It does not specifically mean you just the two pens.
