    eating sound!

    Hi,

What do you call the sound that people make when eating? Some denote it as bad manners. It's also the sound one makes when chewing gum.

    Here is my try :

What do you call the sound that people make when eating?
    May be : slurp

sound one makes when chewing gum.
    May be : munch; chomp; champ; scrunch; crunch;

I can't quite understand what you mean. This is just my try. I may be wrong. I hope others will help you well.

Note : I am just a beginner in learning English.

Thanks Gary! Actually, what I'm looking for is just one kind of sound. The noisy sound of someone eating(usually with an open mouth), where you could even hear his saliva splashing in his mouth. yuck! I heard someone do that when I went down a while ago to eat. In my mind, I thought of rebuking him in English.

SLURP - is usually used with "soups", right?

MUNCH - to chew noisily with the lips closed, perhaps with teeth gnashing.

SCRUNCH/CRUNCH - to crush (hard/shelled food) with the teeth; chew with a crushing noise.

CHOMP/CHAMP - the act of gripping or chewing off with the teeth and jaws ...

    *** I'm afraid It's not here yet.

    Re: eating sound!

The noise someone makes when chewing with their mouth open is usually called "smacking."

    Thanks Ouisch!

One question : Does smacking refer to the sound or the act of eating that way?

    Re: eating sound!

The sound, but mothers will chastise their children: "Quit smacking and chew with your mouth closed!" which makes it sound like the act of chewing. But it actually refers to the sound.

    Thanks Ouisch!
But I think it refers to both!
