    Smile say in other words

Hi, dear, Could you rephrase the part in bold in the following two sentences. I have to translate them but I can't get the point/meaning.

    1. At first the traffic was so light that I looked like getting there in about ten minutes, but then an almost stationary Belgian container lorry, stuck trying to get into a side-turning and so gigantic it must have been built for laughs, put my mind at rest.

    2. The car -park was at the back of a one-storey building with a husky looking creeper trained along it.

The writer is suggesting that the container lorry looked both unreal and totally comic.

    2. The car -park was at the back of a one-storey building with a husky-looking creeper trained along it.The creeping plant was very vigorous and growing strongly.
