    Sb was told/Sb was said

What is the difference between was said and was told?

I was said to do that.
I was told to do that.

Think of "said" as relating to the words that were used. Think of "told" as the meaning that was given.

I said, "Once upon a time, there was..." vs. I told a story.

Told also has the meaning of "ordered."
My mother told me to empty the dishwasher.

I was told to do that means I was ordered to do that.

    Does that make sense?

Oh, thanks. Another question about said and told.

Can i use "Sb is/was told/said to be a good teacher." meaning that "Sb" is supposed to be or known as a good teacher? Is it used?

"He has always helped his students, so he is told/said to be one of the best teachers."

"He has always helped his students, so he is said to be one of the best teachers." - he is said to be means in other words that they say he is one of the best teachers.
As Barb already said, he is told means he is ordered to

[1] He is told to be one of the best teachers.
[2] He is said to be one of the best teachers.
[3] It is said that he is one of the best teachers.

More examples here: "he is said to be" - Google Search

    Does that help?
