    Smile This or That?

    If I described something and later I wanted to refer to it, should I use this or that? For example, I did my best to pass the exam but [this/that] was not enough.

    There, I would use 'it', but the more something is on the past, the more likely we are to use 'that'. So, I would use 'that'.
