    convert human being

We pretended to make potion by apples and mangoes. This will convert human being into a monkey.

    Are these sentences correct?

If yes, then, I wonder what the word "pretended" exactly means here. May be "decided", I am not sure. If possible, please give me good alternatives for the word "convert" in this context.
