change about topic intentionally/do do something otherwise intentionally

Once I was talking to my friend, I asked him about his girlfriend but he didn't want to tell about her, so he changed the topic and talking about other matters. Could you tell me the word which can be substituted for "change topic intentionally"? may be glossed over something, I guess.

    Please help me.
