    grammatically correct or incorrect

    Hi,

    I wanted to know which one of the sentences is correct:

    1)The car is coming IN the opposite direction.

    OR

    2)The car is coming FROM the opposite direction.

    and why..??

    They're both OK. 1 implies movement; 2 implies expectation.

    Examples:

    1 Driving down a narrow country lane, he crashed into a car coming in the opposite direction.

    2 Arriving at the T-junction, he looked to the right and saw that the road was clear. But before he could move off, a 40-ton truck came from the opposite direction.

    I have a similar confusion about:

    1. He came out OF the house.
    2. He came out FROM the house.

    If both are correct, in which context can I use them?
