    infinitive question

His wish is for Jane to stay.

Why should we put "for" in this sentence?
    Why not:
His wish is Jane to stay.

I`d say : He wishes [that] Jane stayed/had stayed/could stay.-depends on the meaning.
    He wishes Jane stay.

This sentence is taken from a textbook and I'm asking about this very sentence. Why "for"?

    Re: infinitive question

That's just the the structure of "a wish."

    I wish for world peace.
    She wished for a pony.
His wish was for season tickets to his favorite sports team.
