    Singular or plural verb?

    What verb should I use if my sentence is "Mark with John (is/are) playing basketball"?

    Mark and John are playing basketball. ==> The main subject consists of two persons, so make it a plural verb.

    or

    Mark is playing basketball with John. ==> The main subject is Mark, so make it a singular verb.
