Question Inverted commas and full stop

    Hi there!
Could you tell me, please where should I place the full stop in:
1.You know the saying: They spend youth on the young” – before the inverted commas or after?
Are the following the same as well as correct:
    2. The four largest moons of Jupiter...
3.The largest four moons of Jupiter...
    In a sentence reading:
4.The Earth is the third nearest planet to the sun.
does the first “the” belong to the ordinal number or to the superlative, and, consequently, how should I formulate a sentence aimed at practising the comparison of adjectives:
4a. The Earth is (near) ... third ... planet to the sun.
    or
4b. The Earth is the third (near) ... planet to the sun.
(Should I capitalize both “earth” and “sun” in this context?)
    Thank you very much,
    Angela

After the quotation marks [Americans may tell you different, but in the UK, this is the norm]

Are the following the same as well as correct:
    2. The four largest moons of Jupiter...
3.The largest four moons of Jupiter...

    Yes

    In a sentence reading:
4.The Earth is the third nearest planet to the sun.
does the first “the” belong to the ordinal number or to the superlative, and, consequently, how should I formulate a sentence aimed at practising the comparison of adjectives:
4a. The Earth is (near) ... third ... planet to the sun.
    or
4b. The Earth is the third (near) ... planet to the sun.
(Should I capitalize both “earth” and “sun” in this context?Yes to "Earth, no to "sun".)

    "the" belongs to "planet".

    Thank you very much,
    Angela

Re: Inverted commas and full stop

    Hello, Anglika,
Thank you. How about the gapped sentence sentence:
    In a sentence reading:
4.The Earth is the third nearest planet to the sun.
does the first “the” belong to the ordinal number or to the superlative, and, consequently, how should I formulate a sentence aimed at practising the comparison of adjectives:
4a. The Earth is (near) ... third ... planet to the sun.
    or
4b. The Earth is the third (near) ... planet to the sun.
    Thanks,
    Angela
