    I don't know if this is exactly what you're asking for. Anyway, here are some examples of compound nouns:

    a kitchen table = a table that is usually placed in the kitchen
    cat/dog food = food for cats/dogs
    bar code
    eye-witness
    lamp post

    Why not court tennis instead of tennis court?

    Because in English an adjective comes before the noun it modifies--not always, but usually.
