    Question looking for a phrase

    Hello!
    I am looking for a phrases which implies about a person that he has been suffering from poor health from quite sometime and still hasn't recovered.

    You could say the person was convalescing from a long illness or that they were on the road to recovery, but still had some way to go.

    He's sinking.
    But this means his health is deteriorating quilcky, and will probably die.
