    translating is a nightmare!

Could you anyone help me to understand this:
memetics covers what is common to the spread of strategies, religions, traditions.
    How should I understand this:
that memetics (it is a new anthropological theory or sicience if you like) is interested in what is common to the process of spreading A,B, C (the process is the main interest) or is interested in what is common in spreading (becoming popular) A, B, C? (ABC are the main interest) please, help
