    Indirect Questions

I want to know what the word order is in indirect questions.
    For example,
Could you tell me who the author is?
Can I say "Could you tell me who is the author?"

    I wondered what was happening.
And why not "I wondered what happening was."

    Any online resources about this?

    Thanks.

You could start with this site: indirect questions grammar learn english

In your query, the second example is not a question. It is a statement.
